Helen Flynn

Helen was an MI5 desk officer who was used mostly as the tea/coffee girl by Harry and photocopying gofer by Tessa. She longed to become a field agent and to this end, she studied all the courses in order to change her status; according to Danny, she topped all of her exams. She was given a chance to go on an undercover operation, posing as Tom's wife in episode 102, when Zoe was commandeered by Tessa on a joint operation with Customs. She was out of her depth and made a couple of errors which led to their cover being blown by Robert Osborne, the villain in episode 102. In order to extract information out of Tom, Osborne first put Helen's hand in a vat of boiling oil, and when information was not forthcoming, he pushed her whole head into the oil. He then ordered one of his sidekicks to kill her with a bullet.

Helen's death was a defining moment for Spooks as it established this TV show as one which is not afraid of killing one of its heroes. At the time episode 102 aired, Lisa Faulkner who played Helen, was one of the better known cast members and her treatment in this episode came as a total surprise to most viewers.
